Snow Angel Kümmel

Kümmels all share one thing in common: caraway. Ours is a Utah version of a classic kümmel which comes from the Eastern side of this tradition. Also called a Kümmel Allasch, Russian Kümmel, or Kümmel Doux (soft), it blends the flavors of caraway, green anise, fennel, coriander, and peppermint in a distilled cordial of exceptional flavor.

The earthiness of the caraway balances the fennel and anise beautifully, while minty coolness from peppermint and citrus spiciness from the coriander provide accents. A hint of distilled rose petal caps the flavor. Generously sweet, the sugar rounds out the intense flavor of the botanicals. We like it served quite cold and neat in a cordial glass.

This holiday cocktail is great year round - but perfect for a cold day. The Snow Angel Kummel is so soft and well-rounded, that I wanted to add other flavors that would keep that softness front and center. The spiced cider adds some sweetness, and the honey simple syrup keep the flavors balanced. The port float really pulls this cocktail together add depth and a dry finish.
